Dr. Joseph Yaker

Dr. Joseph Yaker of Plano, Texas has been performing hair restoration at Yaker Hair Restoration since 2015. I first learned of Dr. Yaker when I was contacted about possible collaboration in February 2021. After a quick internet search I learned that he is one of the few Texas hair transplant doctors accepted as a member of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons. This automatically meant we could move forward with discussions so I could learn more about him and his clinic. When clinics apply to be on this website there are some base requirements they have to meet to even be considered. Beyond that, I have a very high standard with regards to imagery, such as photos and video (if they shoot video). In fact, at the time of this writing, I’m working with two clinics that have applied several months ago in order to help them with their photo quality. This is so that if they meet the rest of my requirements and I present a new video for their introduction, I’ll have evidence of their work that I can zoom in on to show you the details of why I feel they produce natural results.

One of my core beliefs is that if you’re going to display your work for the world to see it should be done with the highest level of clarity that is possible. We’d all love to see results in person from clinics that we consider for ourselves but in order to even find a clinic for consideration it is the duty of the clinic to show you their work in the most revealing and transparent manner possible. Conversely, it is your duty as a patient to demand such clarity. Without the proper clarity for a clinic’s work, you can’t determine how natural their work is and the only time you’ll find out is when it’s on your own head. Finding this type of detail with Dr. Yaker’s photo documentation was easy as he’s already set up with the proper gear to document his hair transplant results.

Dr. Yaker is one of the few doctors in the field that had his sights set on hair transplantation before he even became a doctor. I really enjoyed learning this about Dr. Yaker, in that his father (who is a plastic surgeon) had a partner that had at one time performed hair transplant surgeries. When Dr. Yaker was seventeen years old he was able to observe one of these surgeries and from that point onward, he was hooked. After high school, Dr. Yaker went on to University of Texas at Austin, and after medical school he went to train at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Kansas. But what sets Dr. Yaker apart from most of the other newer doctors in the field is that he undertook a full year fellowship in hair transplant surgery with an established and experienced clinic. He trained with Dr. DiStefano at the DiStefano clinic in Massachusetts where he learned not only FUE hair restoration but also FUT (strip) hair transplant surgery.

Dr. Yaker established Yaker Hair Restoration in 2015 in Plano, Texas. Early on in his practice he started offering FUE hair restoration using the Smartgraft™ FUE system. This makes Dr. Yaker the first doctor accepted as a Hair Transplant Mentor™ member that primarily uses this type of automated FUE system. This reinforces one of the main points I try to educate patients about; the tool is only as good as the hand that wields it. In addition to using the Smartgraft™ system, Dr. Yaker offers platelet rich plasma therapy to help with hair loss issues that do not require surgical intervention.

Behind every doctor is a team that maintains the standards of the clinic. Yaker Hair Restoration has a dedicated team of very experienced staff and technicians that help to deliver excellent, natural results for their patients. Three of Dr. Yaker’s staff have over ten years of experience in the hair transplant industry and all have many years of experience with FUE in particular. Of note is Natalie Yaker NP. Among Natalie’s duties in the clinic, she conducts all female consultations to help guide them through their non-surgical options. If, of course, surgery becomes something of interest then they are directed to Dr. Yaker for a surgical assessment but I thought it was nice to see that female patients receive a focused degree of attention that other women are better suited to relate to. All of the medical staff members are licensed professionals in the state of Texas which lends credibility to the overall patient experience. I think it is also important to point out that the surgical assistants are not part time. Having full time surgical technicians helps to insure a level of consistency that cannot be achieved when a clinic relies on contract technicians that bounce from clinic to clinic.

Dr. Yaker believes in making sure all of patients are properly educated which is one reason why becoming a Hair Transplant Mentor™ member doctor makes sense. Dr. Yaker shares a lot of the same core philosophies that all members share, including the idea that surgery is the last resort. Undergoing every non-surgical option for hair restoration is the preferred and safest route to regaining your hair. This can be achieved through various means, sometimes in combination with each other. The clinic offers platelet rich plasma therapy as do a lot of other clinics, but one thing they do different is they offer their own topical solutions to help combat hair loss. Yaker Hair Restoration has partnered with a local compounding pharmacy to offer a variety of prescription level options that are difficult to find.

Dr. Joseph Yaker has passed my rigorous review process before being given Hair Transplant Mentor™ accepted member status. The review process is based on my own high standards based on over twenty years of working with world class clinics. Once accepted, every Hair Transplant Mentor™ member clinic pays a monthly retainer fee for membership and my services.
