As with many young Sikh males this patient wore a tightly wound turban for many years. The result was traction alopecia where the constant pulling of the hair on both the left, right and the frontal 1/3 of his scalp eventually left these areas almost hairless.

In one session Dr. Wong used 4564 grafts to recreate both sides and the frontal hairline. The after photos were taken fifteen days post-op. Final results will be shared in eight to twelve months.

Dr. Hasson Patient/4634 Grafts/One Session/Three Years Post-op

This patient came to Dr. Hasson three years ago with the hopes of achieving as much coverage as possible in one session. 4634 grafts were transplanted in one session for the result seen below. Dr. Hasson concentrated establishing a mature hairline that would continue to be age appropriate as the patient continues to age. He then spread the remaining grafts through the top of the scalp with a light sprinkling of grafts in the crown area for light but effective coverage.

This patient came to see Dr. Wong in August, 2009. Dr. Wong and his team transplanted 3579 grafts in one session for the result you see below. Dr. Wong avoided the still full forelock area and transplanted at a higher density on either side of the forelock for a natural blending of transplant and native hair. The mid-scalp received less density due to existing hair with the remainder placed in the crown with a natural enhancement to the whorl pattern.

Here’s a new result from Dr. Wong for you to check out. This patient had 4573 grafts and with his very coarse hair the result turned out to have a very strong appearance of density. The grafts were placed in the front quarter of the scalp as well as the crown.

“Unofficial” How To Take Photos Video

Ok guys, here it is. I’ve finally taken the time to put together a video on how to take proper photos to send to your clinic of choice. It is a subject I’ve spoken about for years. I get so many pictures from people wanting an evaluation that are out of focus, taken in bad lighting etc. that I decided that I should do what I can to inform people how important good photo taking is.

The video is long, and boring, so I tried to spice it up a bit with my quirky sense of humor, hence the “unofficial” moniker:)

Summary of Points:

1.) Think about what you are doing. You are submitting photos for a SURGICAL evaluation. Don’t leave this task to a cell phone camera, regardless of megapixels. Higher megapixels does not equate higher focus and higher clarity. Go to Walmart and buy a 100.00 camera!

2.) Don’t hold the camera at sixteen different angles above your head. This will increase the likelihood of camera shake which means a blurry image. Place the camera on a shelf or counter top and “pose” for the camera. If you have a tri-pod then use that.

3.) Don’t take photos with the light source behind you. This “blinds” the camera. Have your main source of light behind the camera.

4.) Be sure to include the left profile, the right profile, the top, the back, donor area density and the full frontal face image. These are confidential so they won’t be used publicly. Doctors need to see the height of your hairline relative to your eyebrows for perspective.

5.) If you had had HT surgery in the past then by all means SHOW the donor scarring, be it strip or FUE. This one image can make or break an evaluation so be sure to include it.

6.) Don’t style your hair the way you normally do to hide the weakness. You can’t expect the doctor to make a reasonably accurate evaluation if you are hiding what concerns you. Expose the weakness as much as you can.

7.) DON’T USE FLASH. This makes your hair look completely different than in reality.

Dr. Wong Patient/1984 Grafts/One Session

This patient was looking for improvements to the hairline and frontal third of his scalp. Dr. Wong suggested a regimen of Propecia along with 2000 grafts. Once finished, the graft count was 1984 grafts in one session. The results shown are eight and a half months post-op. The front third has filled in from the surgery and has dramatically altered the frame of his face. The mid-scalp and the crown have obviously benefited from Propecia. This is a good example of how surgery and Propecia can work very well together.

This patient came to see Dr. Hasson eight months ago to have the front and back restored in one session. 4693 grafts were used to rebuild the frontal third of his scalp including the hairline and into the mid-scalp region. The crown was then thickened by following the natural angle and direction of the existing hairs for a fuller overall result.
